Vorwerk Group Publishes Sustainability Report

Wuppertal, 15 October 2019 – "As a corporate group, we want to systematically and continuously improve the the social and environmental impact of our actions and thus make a positive contribution to a sustainable development." With these words Reiner Strecker, Managing Partner of the Vorwerk Group, comments the publication of the first sustainability report of the Wuppertal-based family business.

The Vorwerk Group has always attached great importance to the protection of people and
the environment, and the concept of sustainability is deeply rooted in its corporate objectives.
In 2016, Vorwerk established a strategic sustainability management system and thus created
the opportunity to bundle the many measures already in place, especially in the individual
production companies, to jointly define new goals and measures, and to summarize these for
the first time in a report. At the same time, this will replace the existing environmental reports
of the individual production companies, which from now on will be included in the
sustainability report. With its voluntary reporting, the Wuppertal-based family-owned
company orientates itself towards the internationally recognized GRI Standards of the Global
Reporting Initiative (GRI).

"We are committed to improving more and more in terms of sustainability – and in this way
also to improving a little bit of the world around us," Nina Roggenkämper, responsible for
Corporate Sustainability at Vorwerk, sums up the claim to sustainability management in the
company. The cross-divisional sustainability organization identifies the key sustainability
topics throughout the Group, including products and production, the supply chain, the
environment, employees and self-employed advisors as well as social commitment. The
topics are summarized accordingly as fields of action.

The report provides a status and shows the development of the past years. At the same time,
goals and measures are defined for the coming years. Their implementation and achievement are in turn pursued within the framework of sustainability management.

Since 2016, relevant key indicators have been collected throughout the Group to define and
review sustainability targets. The field of action “Environment” provides an example of this
with regard to the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of the business units represented
in the report. Since January 2018, at the Wuppertal site, for example, electricity has been
purchased exclusively from renewable sources. As a result, the share of renewable energies
in the energy mix of the electricity purchased increased from 34 to 66 percent between 2016
and 2018. CO2 emissions fell by 51 percent in the same period.
