Vorwerk statement on Synacktiv research findings
We continuously develop Thermomix® software in line with modern security standards and use a robust system architecture to ensure that unauthorised access is prevented. We also work closely with independent experts to ensure this. Such tests deliberately cover scenarios that are unlikely to occur in practice in order to ensure the stability of our systems in the best possible way.
In one such scenario, the French IT security company Synacktiv was able to demonstrate to us that the screen output of a Thermomix® TM5 with a software version that had been obsolete since 2022 could be changed locally. However, this required a direct connection between the end device and the Thermomix® via cable – i.e., the device had to be within physical reach. Access to other functions or customer data was not possible in this test, either locally or remotely. The vulnerability identified in this way was already fixed in 2022 with a software update.
The Thermomix® TM5 has not been sold by Vorwerk since 2019; the current Thermomix® models TM6 and TM7 are also not affected by this issue.
Current Information
It is part of the Vorwerk Group’s 2025 strategy to further invest in growth and expand in regions. Under this strategic direction, the Vorwerk Group decided to set up its own subsidiary in Malaysia and Singapore with effect from October 1st, 2024, to step up investment in the regions and to directly steer the development of these two important Asian markets.
