We from here: Vorwerk builds new office building in Wuppertal - making clear commitment to its home region

Vorwerk and Wuppertal - a connection that has existed since the company was founded 140 years ago. And one that will continue to endure: the company is now building a new office building in Wuppertal.

Wuppertal, 22nd of May 2023 – "Wuppertal is and will remain the headquarters of Vorwerk - and we are underlining this with the construction of a new office building in Wuppertal," says Dr. Thomas Stoffmehl, Speaker of the Executive Board of the Vorwerk Group. The new building is expected to be occupied at the beginning of 2025 by the employees who previously worked at the historic office site in Wuppertal Mühlenweg. After 70 years of use, the historic office building no longer meets the requirements of a modern office complex.

The planned new building, on the other hand, is all about the future and innovation: in future, employees will be offered a working environment that suits the company in open, communicative office spaces. Ergonomic work design, inviting furnishings and bright, daylight-flooded offices will enable employees to work as comfortably as possible. In addition, the building is to meet recognized sustainability standards: Vorwerk is aiming for DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) certification during planning and construction. A wide range of sustainability measures are planned: for example, solar panels attached to the building ensure its own electricity production. Furthermore, in addition to a green roof, additional green areas are planned, which will be designed with the support of a biodiversity expert to create a new home for native flora and fauna.

The building will be constructed with 4 office floors in a U-shape that will provide the workforcec with an optimal view of the Wupper River. "As a Wuppertal-based company, we naturally want to honor the Wupper accordingly - so it was the logical consequence to provide as many employees as possible with this view," explains Christian Schmitz, Project Manager at the Vorwerk Group. At the moment, everything is still being prepared for the upcoming laying of the foundation stone.

Incidentally, Rauental was not chosen by chance: "With the new building, we are reviving a Vorwerk site that is rich in tradition," Dr. Thomas Stoffmehl is pleased to say. The property is "rich in tradition" because it has been owned by Vorwerk since 1959. Until 2019, research and development employees were still working in an office building located there. The building was demolished in 2022, and since then the site has been waiting for further use.

What will happen to the historic office building in Mühlenweg is currently still being clarified - a decision will probably be made before the end of 2023.
