Wuppertal, September 7, 2023. Vorwerk is the number one direct sales company in Europe and is known for Kobold and Thermomix®. The company, headquartered in Wuppertal, inspires people – from advisors to customers and employees. Sustainability is also part of the company's DNA, be it durable products, low energy consumption or the use of recyclable materials. An independent jury of experts has now nominated Vorwerk for the German Sustainability Award. This year, the award is being presented for the 16th time and is Europe's largest award for ecological and social commitment.
Climate protection is a focus of sustainability at Vorwerk. The switch to renewable energies and e-mobility is one of the most important levers in the implementation of the climate protection target. By 2025, two thirds of the company's own emissions (Scope 1 and 2) are to be reduced compared to the base year 2016. Green electricity from guarantees of origin is used at the production sites in Germany, France and China as well as at the German subsidiaries. Photovoltaic systems are installed on the properties where this is structurally possible.
"Vorwerk has been committed to climate protection, the circular economy and the value chain for years," says Thomas Hajduk, Director Sustainability. This includes, for example, respect for human rights in the supply chain, the gradual switch to sustainable materials from the Kobold VK7 and Thermomix® TM6, resource-saving packaging or the processing and reuse of production residues. Vorwerk also supports the Circular Valley for the development of new business ideas in the area of circular solutions. Interested parties can find numerous sustainable Thermomix® recipes on the Cookidoo® recipe platform.
Since July 2022, the company has been compensating its own remaining, currently unavoidable emissions through climate protection projects certified with the Gold Standard. For the next step in climate protection, Vorwerk wants to save 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3.1) by 2030 together with its material suppliers, among other things by using green electricity and selecting sustainable materials.
The German Sustainability Award is presented to 100 sustainability pioneers from the German business community. The award ceremony will take place on 23 November 2023 at the MARITIM Hotel Düsseldorf. You can find more information about the award here: https://www.nachhaltigkeitspreis.de/en/
